About This Project

Our mission is to make learning English pronunciation simple, interactive, and accessible to everyone.

What is the IPA Chart?

This interactive tool is designed to help learners master the 44 phonetic sounds of British English (Received Pronunciation). It utilizes the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA), a standardized system for representing speech sounds. By clicking on each symbol, you can hear the corresponding sound, and by clicking on the example word, you can hear how it's used in context.

Our Goal

We believe that a strong foundation in phonetics is crucial for clear communication and confidence in speaking English. Our goal was to create a user-friendly, visually appealing, and educationally sound resource that learners can use anytime, anywhere. This chart is perfect for students, teachers, actors, and anyone looking to refine their English accent.

The Technology Behind It

This entire application is built with modern web technologies. It runs completely in your browser using HTML, CSS, and vanilla JavaScript. We use the browser's built-in Web Speech API to pronounce the example words, ensuring a fast and seamless experience without needing a server connection for the core functionality.

Credits & Collaboration

This project was originally designed by José Latines. The code has been refactored, redesigned, and enhanced by the Fancytext Team to improve user experience, add new features, and structure the content for better learning.
